Reminds me of when a Frankenstein purist took me to task on my Amazon review of your Monster. The fact that I was a fan and not a Frankenstein scholar seemed to be the primary point of contention.
Max, there were plenty of Frankenstein fans, like Daniel Knaus, who loved the book, but there is also a (small) group of activist Shelley fans who were outraged to see any man write a Frankenstein retelling--and it probably drove them even more insane that I didn't make only a small change but came up with a complete retelling. I saw the same sort of reaction to Peter Ackroyd's The Casebook of Victor Frankensteain.

A dark and amusing tale of the Wikipedia labyrinth.
